(sorry for the cross-post -- I can never remember which group carries
the larger bulk of traffic!)
I'm handy to Berkeley very very very briefly for probably the only
time in my life. I would -like- to visit the site of what I'd
remembered from the various sketch biographies as "the record store
PKD ran about the same time as he started writing," but some snooping
around found an account by Sutin:
http://www.philipkdick.com/aa_biography.html
: From age fifteen to his early twenties, Dick was employed in two
: Berkeley shops, University Radio and Art Music, owned by Herb Hollis
as well as about eleventy dozen mentions of "the record store." Oops.
"University radio" and "Art music" aren't great phrases to Google on,
of course. Taking Sutin as accurate, is anyone able to help out with
addresses of where these stores were? I'd very much like to park
myself across the road from each with my trusty 35mm to add a few more
frames to the bunchteen rolls of film I'm taking home with me.
ta,
butting
