H. G. Wells FAQ 1.2.5
To comment on anything here or to ask questions, please reply to the group
or post to the newsgroup. The reply address doesn't exist.
Internet addresses are changing all the time. Hopefully the addresses
below
are up to date. If not, please let the group know.
1. H. G. Wells works.
Q: Where can I find H. G. Wells' works on the Internet?
A: There is a good selection at Project Gutenberg in txt format:-
www.gutenberg.net
There are some works in a variety of formats at:-
www.blackmask.com
Otherwise, try using a search engine to see if you can find the work
you're
after.
NB It may be a breach of copyright in some places to download these
materials.
There is a note on copyright at the Wells Society website which you can
access via a link from the Society address given in point 3 below.
Q: Where can I find reviews / summaries of H. G. Wells' works on the
Internet?
A: There isn't a single site for this type of material and they are rare
or
nonexistent for most of his works. There are some brief reviews at
www.hgwellsusa.50megs.com/UK/Stratusreprints.html and
www.cs.clemson.edu/~tdoyle/hgbib.html. A search engine is probably the
best
way to go if you are looking for something more detailed.
Alternatively, read the work yourself and make your own.
2. H. G. Wells book lists.
Q: Can I find a complete list of H. G. Wells' works on the Internet?
A: No but there is a comprehensive list of his books at:-
www.cs.clemson.edu/~tdoyle/hgbib.html
There is a reasonable list of his science fiction at isfdb:-
isfdb.tamu.edu/sfdbase.html (search for H. G. Wells under Name)
There is a somewhat inaccurate list of books, collections, anthologies and
stories at:-
www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/authors/H_G_Wells.htm
3. H. G. Wells Resources.
Q: What other H. G. Wells resources are available on the Internet?
A: You could start with these:
H. G. Wells Society - www.hgwellsusa.50megs.com
I recommend looking at both the original (UK) subsite and the American
subsite.
There is an extensive list of links to Wells related sites.
Gloria McMillan's Time Machine site -
www.u.arizona.edu/~gmcmilla/menu.html
The Time Machine Project - www.colemanzone.com/Time_Machine_Project/
4. Excerpts from the old FAQ created by Gloria McMillan.
Q: Who started this group?
A: Gloria McMillan founded the HGW group in 1994 to promote a better
understanding of the life and works of one of the most original writers in
the field of science fiction.
Q: What has become of our beloved Spam?
A: I simply can't account for it. We used to have marvellous spamming from
every corner of the Net.
5. About this FAQ.
Q: I think I could do a better FAQ. Do you mind if I take over?
A: Not at all. Be my guest.
Regards,
Peter.
